Happy Fall! Now that you’re probably using your pool less often, it is still important to maintain both your pool and your equipment. Maintenance also plays a huge role in pool safety. Because, believe it or not, improperly handling pool chemicals, cleaning equipment, and maintenance, in general, can make the last thing on your mind this fall (fire, explosions, and non-water-related injuries) become a devastating reality.

So, what can you do to keep your pool fire-hazard free? Here are 5 tips to get you started:

  1. Clear the area of the pool heater of debris, trash, and chemicals. Also, make sure you clear any vegetation growing on the top of the heater.
  2. Remove debris, like leaves, branches, etc., from the equipment area.
  3. Store hazardous pool chemicals in their properly-sealed containers. Place these containers in an area that will not be affected by weather conditions.
  4. Inspect all of the electric conduits of your pool equipment for damages on a regular basis, and contact a certified professional to replace them as needed.
  5. Check that the inside of your pool heater, chiller, etc. is clear of rodent nests at least once a year.
